Mystic Messenger: How To Play

The Basics

Mystic Messenger is a mobile app where the functions mimick a real life messaging app, so it's main gameplay involves a chatroom system, where the player can respond by choosing from a limited selection of text message options. Chatrooms open up at specific times of the day across the course of the route and one will close once the next opens up. However, if the player misses a chatroom, there are a couple of fixes, such as spending an in-game currency called hourglasses to 'buy' back the time they missed. Alternatively, Mystic Messenger also has a save-load function, in which the player can use to return to previous save files.

At the beginning, the casual story is immediately available, including a four day common route, followed by the potential of unlocking Zen, Yoosung and Jaehee's routes, depending on which character's 'love meter' the player raises high enough. After obtaining a certain amount of hourglasses, the player can unlock the deep story, which unlocks Jumin and 707's routes after the 5th common route day, and another amount of hourglasses can unlock 'another story', which include Ray and V's routes. Both secret endings one and two are available after the player completes 707's good ending.

How To Reach The Good Ending

To avoid bad endings, the player must take part in a minimum amount of chatrooms every day and also make sure to choose the text message responses that would be healthiest for the love interest. There are some response options that the love interest would be happiest to hear, but the player must not choose what would please the love interest most, like indulging in an unhealthy mindset/delusion, but instead what would be healthiest. This is important to keep in mind, as these options can be confusing to casual players, who may simply want to choose the easiest response or play the game without thinking too much about it.

There is one more factor that can affect the type of ending the player can get though: separate from both bad endings and good endings, there are also normal endings to each route. Another feature of the game that the player can choose from a limited selection of messages to respond to is the emailing feature. In the chatrooms, the love interests will recommend party guests for the player to exchange emails with if the player chooses to. The player must exchange three different emails with party guests, choosing from two different options each time.

If the player doesn't manage to convince enough guests to attend the party by the end of the route, they will receive a normal ending instead of a good ending. This isn't something too difficult to achieve though, as the answers to the emails can be easily inferred from understanding who the guests are and what they value.
