The Cheritz Timeline
Cheritz was founded on the 28th of February 2012 by Sujin Ri, who studied computer science in America, and she released her first game, Dandelion, on the 27th of August of the same year, only six months after founding the company. A year later, on the 11th of November 2013, their second game, Nameless, was released, and in 2014, both games were moved to Steam. To promote the games, multiple events were hosted, including a Nameless cafe event at Banjul, as well as the collaboration between Cheritz and Crobidoll to make ball-joint dolls of Nameless' characters.
In 2014, a third game was teased through the merchandise called Lynn Project (데려온 아이 lit. The Child I Bought). However this game never did come to pass, at least not as Lynn Project. It is possible that instead, Lynn Project was changed during development into a different game.
July of 2016 saw the release of Mystic Messenger. Both Dandelion and Nameless were incredibly popular when they were released, but the pure uniqueness of the game's play style brought massive popularity to the game and the company, and the company still updates and celebrates Mystic Messenger to this day. A major update called Another Story was made to the game on September 8th of 2018 in which two new love interests were added after fans requested it.
In the same year, the beta version of The Ssum was released to Malaysia and India, which included just the first fourteen days of gameplay. The next four years was the longest Cheritz went without any major new games or updates, and after some delays due to the pandemic layoffs, Cheritz's fourth game, The Ssum, was finally released in full on the 17th of August 2022. Originally, the game was released with only one love interest, but as the developers continue to update the game, at least three new love interests have been added, and the game is still being worked on and expanded upon at this moment in time.
Unfortunately, in late 2023, Cheritz faced controversy over The Ssum's artwork, and made a statement where they came clean about using AI to make the art for some of the images on the app. They were clear that they never used AI for any of the character artwork but only for backgrounds and unimportant things instead. This left a bad taste in a lot of fans' mouths, and because of this controversy, some did not accept Cheritz's apology, especially due to the lack of a promise not to use AI in future.
